Feeding The Needy for Rosh Hashanah at Masbia

Post on: September 10, 2024

Both in the lead up to Rosh Hashanah and during the holiday, Masbia staff and volunteers work tirelessly to meet various needs. Low-income and struggling families receive packages of special holiday groceries, while those who cannot cook for themselves get ready-cooked holiday meals with all the traditional foods. During Rosh Hashanah, that means having all the simanim, which are all the foods that provoke prayer for a good year, such as round challah, apples, honey, pomegranate, fish heads, tzimmes, and a lot more. That’s in addition to the Yom Tov menu, which includes wine, salmon, gefilte fish, chicken soup, matzoh balls, beef, shlishkes, kugels, beverages, dips, and desserts.

Masbia feeding the needy on Rosh Hashanah has been featured in many media outlets. You can check them out here.

Masbia is seeking to raise $48,600 to cover the cooked meals served during Rosh Hashanah. This year Rosh Hashanah is a 3-day holiday, since it concludes with a Shabbos, known as Shabbos Shuva. That means we will be serving six meals, known as Seudos. We estimate each Seuda to have 50 guests at each location.

To sponsor one guest for one traditional holiday meal is $54. To sponsor an entire Seuda for 50 people is $2,700. To sponsor Seudos for 50 people at all three locations is $8,100. That makes the entire six Seudos of Rosh Hashanah at all three locations $48,600. Our interactive website allows you to choose the donation size that works best for you. Sponsorship options include a single meal, ten meals, fifty meals, or the entire nine hundred meals we need for Rosh Hashanah. You could even choose which Rosh Hashanah meal you want to apply your sponsorship to, as well as the location you wish to sponsor. Check it out here.

To cover the entire High Holiday season Masbia is seeking to raise $963,000. This includes $720,000 to sponsor 10,000 holiday packages at $72 each and $243,000 for cooked holiday meals ($54 a traditional cooked holiday meal x 50 people x 3 locations x 30 Seudas = $243,000). Considering volunteer labor and in-kind donations, the value of our total output for the High Holiday season is estimated to be closer to $2,000,000.

There are many meaningful sponsorship options. You can choose to sponsor holiday meals, even select the day and location; or you can choose to sponsor holiday packages with a matching grant, maximizing your charitable impact. You also have the option of turning your donation into a digital Shana Tova card or a digital Ushpizin gift to someone special. Click here.
