There is no space for building a sukkah at Masbia’s new Boro Park soup kitchen, located at 5402 New Utrecht Avenue, just one block from Shomrei Shabbos at 13th Ave. and 53rd Street. Masbia Executive Director Alexander Rapaport asked Shomrei Shabbos if the soup kitchen can use its sukkah; the shul readily agreed, noting that its communal sukkah is open to the public.
Hamodia: Masbia to Operate in Cong. Shomrei Shabbos’ Sukkah

The Masbia soup kitchen in Boro Park will operate this Yom Tov in the sukkah of Congregation Shomrei Shabbos, with food provided by the Herzog family.
A large number of needy community members partake of the free food provided at Shomrei Shabbos throughout the year, as well as on Sukkos. The amount of food necessary to feed both the usual Masbia crowd as well as the Shomrei Shabbos crowd is staggering; as it is, Masbia struggles to provide its regular patrons with sufficient food for 2 million meals a year. To that end, the Herzog family has generously stepped in, agreeing to sponsor Kedem, Gefen and Glick’s food; Herzog wines; and Kedem grape juices throughout Sukkos in the Shomrei Shabbos/Masbia sukkah.
The Herzog donation will ensure that the sukkah will be stocked with food and drink 24/7. Masbia is still seeking sponsors for hot dinners. One meal for one person – a full high-end Yom Tov meal with mashgiach temidi – can be sponsored for $50; sponsorship of an entire meal is $3,600. Donations can be made at http://www.masbiaboropark.org/sukkos
Below is a the schedule of hot meals in the sukkah.
Wednesday night, first night of Sukkos: 8:15-9:30 p.m.
Thursday, first day of Sukkos: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Thursday night, second night of Sukkos: 8:15-9:30 p.m.
