Feeding The Needy for Sukkos at Masbia
Post on: September 10, 2024Both in the lead up to Sukkos and during the holiday, Masbia staff and volunteers work tirelessly to meet various needs. Low-income and struggling families receive packages of special holiday groceries, while those who cannot cook for themselves get ready-cooked holiday meals with all the traditional foods. The Yom Tov menu, includes challah, honey, wine, salmon, gefilte fish, chicken soup with matzah balls, beef, shlishkes, kugels, beverages, dips, and desserts. We even build a sukkah, and those days are some of our busiest.
Masbia’s work during Sukkos has been featured in many media outlets. You can check them out here.
According to the Zohar, the holy Ushpizin (spiritual guests) experience great joy when food is shared with those in need. The food provided to the needy is regarded as the personal portion of the Ushpizin, and it is in their honor that they remain present at your meal in the sukkah.
Masbia is seeking to raise $113,400 to cover the cooked meals served during Sukkos. Masbia will be serving fourteen meals, known as Seudos. We estimate each Seuda to have 50 guests at each location.
To sponsor one guest for one traditional holiday meal is $54. To sponsor an entire Seuda for 50 people is $2,700. To sponsor Seudos for 50 people at all three locations is $8,100. That makes the entire fourteen Seudos of Sukkos at all three locations $113,400. Our interactive website allows you to choose the donation size that works best for you. Sponsorship options include a single meal, ten meals, fifty meals, or the entire two thousand one hundred meals needed for Sukkos. You could even choose which day in Sukkos meal you want to apply your sponsorship to, as well as the location you wish to sponsor. You will also have the option to turn your donation into a digital Ushpizin gift to someone special. Click here.
To cover the entire High Holiday season Masbia is seeking to raise $963,000. This includes $720,000 to sponsor 10,000 holiday packages at $72 each and $243,000 for cooked holiday meals ($54 a traditional cooked holiday meal x 50 people x 3 locations x 30 Seudas = $243,000). Considering volunteer labor and in-kind donations, the value of our total output for the High Holiday season is estimated to be closer to $2,000,000.
There are many meaningful sponsorship options. You can choose to sponsor holiday meals, even select the day and location; or you can choose to sponsor holiday packages with a matching grant, maximizing your charitable impact. You also have the option of turning your donation into a digital Shana Tova card or a digital Ushpizin gift to someone special. Click here.
