Masbia partners with Door Dash to distribute apples and honey to families in need for Rosh Hashanah
Posted on: October 10, 2024Nearly 16,000 Jewish households in Brooklyn are food insecure, according to the United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York’s extensive census from last year.
With the two holiest holidays of the Jewish calendar year coming up, Masbia in Borough Park is lending a helping hand to those families.
Thousands of cases of apples and jars of honey that would of gone to waste, are finding themselves a home on 10,000 different tables across Brooklyn to families who may not of had the treat.
“We use food to remind us in prayer that we should all have a sweet new year, but we want to make sure that everyone can have a holiday meal,” says Masbia director Alex Rappaport. “We use a lot of honey in the Rosh Hashanah meal and the best way to enjoy your honey? You dip some fresh apples in them.
The shipments have gained such popularity for Jewish families in need that Masbia partnered with Door Dash to make sure all of the food gets into households before the holiday begins.
“What Door Dash does with donating so many deliveries,” Rappaport explains,” Frees up the money we would of needed to spend on food. We can now have that money go toward food and they take care of these deliveries.”
